Inner Fire: A Day of Ignatian Spirituality
500 years ago a feisty knight who lived for military adventure found himself on a different path--the adventure of the heart. There he found his real passion and true self. God lit a fire in him to know the living God in all aspects of life. From there he wrote The Spiritual Exercises and they’ve been changing lives ever since.
This retreat will cover some of the main themes and practices of The Exercises: The Desires of the Heart, Imaginative Prayer, The Examen, Holy Detachment and Discernment of Spirits. The day will offer broad strokes to get a picture of The Exercises and perhaps provide discernment for those who may want to go deeper.
I had the privilege of doing my masters at Chicago’s Institute of Pastoral Studies where several Jesuit priests and other Ignatian trained instructors mentored me. I continue to draw upon that community. Along with one-on-one spiritual direction, I lead an annual 9-month “Retreat in Everyday Life” (the 19th Annotation of the Exercises) with a small group of six.
